Puzzle archive
Every recent FootyFacts Board daily puzzle — 14 past grids, each with its categories, answer counts and where the difficulty sat.
Boards are generated from their date, not stored, which means any past day can be rebuilt exactly as it was. Each page below breaks down that day's grid: the six categories, how many valid answers each of the nine cells had, the obvious answer nobody gets credit for, the best score that was available, and a named sample of the players who actually qualified in each cell.
Every one of these is still playable from the Archive tab in the game — and every daily board ever generated is, not only the ones written up here. Replays count toward your practice statistics but never toward the daily streak, for a reason worth understanding.
This archive is a rolling window of recent boards rather than a permanent record of all of them. Ninety near-identical pages of the same table is not a thing worth publishing; a fortnight of boards you might plausibly still want to review is. Older dates redirect back here.
Today's board is deliberately not listed. These pages give away answers, and the live puzzle is the one thing on the site worth protecting.
What this fortnight looked like
Across the 14 boards below, the average board offered 551 valid answers in total across its nine cells — which sounds generous until you remember they are not evenly distributed. The widest board here was 23 August 2026 at 1,123; the narrowest was 27 August 2026 at 245.
The number that actually decides a board is not the total, though — it is the tightest single cell. The hardest cell published here was on 21 August 2026, with 3 valid answers in the entire dataset — the floor the generator allows, since a board with any cell below three is rejected outright. Why the tight cell is the one to open first.
Which category families turned up
Every board must span at least four different families, which is what stops a grid being six variations on one idea. This is how often each family appeared across the fortnight:
| Family | Boards |
|---|---|
| Clubs | 14 of 14 |
| Club geography | 10 of 14 |
| Leagues | 10 of 14 |
| Era | 7 of 14 |
| Nationality | 7 of 14 |
| Honours | 6 of 14 |
| Career shape | 4 of 14 |
| Position | 3 of 14 |
The distribution is not even, and it is not meant to be: a family with more categories in it has more chances to be drawn. The full category list, with sizes, is where that shape comes from.
